With the move of BBC, ITV, 4 and Channel 5 from Astra 1N to Astra 2E’s UK spot beam, a lot of areas in Spain have lost the ability to receive these through Satellite dishes. One solution is to use the Internet if you already have broadband. In order to receive the programmes, you need to ‘exit’ the Internet in the UK. This is done by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Otherwise the broadcaster will stop you accessing their live streaming and on demand service.
One easy option is using an Ipad with a VPN setup and connecting it to your TV. Tried and tested, low cost at <€40 p.a. We recommend Strong VPN, we use it ourselves:
Another option is having a second router with specific software to automatically connect to the VPN permanently, providing a UK exit point for a number of devices, PC, tablets, phones and even the good old Sky+ box. Although Sky+ won’t be able to show live Bbc, ITV, C4, C5 …… all their “on demand” services can be downloaded to the box and viewed when you want to.
